Based on the infamous 1891 Frank Wedekind play and featuring an original score by Grammy®-nominated recording star Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, SPRING AWAKENING is a musical that doesn’t play by conventional rules. The setting is the late 19th century, but the score is completely contemporary. The story is about teens trying to break loose – and adults fighting to hold on, a tale of sexual repression and hormonal chaos told with cutting-edge honesty. And while SPRING AWAKENING is primarily experienced through the eyes of three teenagers – the handsome rebel, the innocent woman-child, the misunderstood loner – it is really the story of young people everywhere. Indeed, the dozen or so teenage roles are embodied by a remarkable cast ranging in age from 16 to 21, making their emotional journey into adulthood all the more heartfelt.
